Thoughts on Motorcycle Training 7/19/2004 11:16:57 AM
Where do I stand? Skills training develops skill. The MSF's Basic Rider course, the legacy MRC:RSS are only two types of training available. There are other motorcycle skills training courses and they are just effective at developing skill.
By taking skills training you can participate in sports at a higher skill level, that is you can accept more risk and have more fun.
No training will make you safe. To sell training as a safety product, when you can not motorcycle safely, I believe is irresponsible. Life is unsafe even when you are not participating in dangerous sports.
I believe that licensing motorcyclists is a job for the DMV and should not be conducted by training courses.
I believe that the best way to reduce motorcycle deaths in an organization or in society is to make it difficult to get a license and discourage motorcycling. This I understand is a fairly unpopular perspective. But reducing the number of motorcyclists is the only sure way to reduce fatalities and serious injuries.
Many organizations promote motorcycling while trying to reduce fatalities and serious injuries, I think this very unproductive.
