The biggest gifts aren't the ones you can touch...
Three years ago a friend of ours had to move across country unexpectedly. They found a new home, but told us that they wouldn't have room for a set of couches that they had and asked if we would like them. They also said they had a t.v. and an entertainment center if we wanted those as well. We never watch t.v....only movies...so we told them we were interested in the entertainment center and couches, but weren't sure about the t.v. They asked us to come and look at the couches and make sure we wanted them. We went and while there, they pointed to their big screen t.v. and told us that this was the t.v. they wouldn't have room for in their new home. My husband and I were in shock... I mean... who gives away big screen t.v.'s for free?? Needless to say, our family has enjoyed three years of use from this family's generous gift.
Fast forward three years...the t.v. quit working one day. Apparently, it is probably an easy fix, but...time, money, etc... well, needless to say we have been watching movies on our 20" t.v. instead! hee, hee...
Yesterday my husband worked a 14 hour day and finally arrived home at 9 p.m. He felt like he should look on Craig's list to see what was there. He found a 12 hour old "ad" from a couple in our town...giving away a big screen t.v. Yep! you guessed it...for free...
He assumed someone had already been gifted with such a generous gift, but decided to respond to the ad anyway.
Within a half hour the couple responded saying that in 12 hours they had received 30 responses to their ad, and only three had mentioned children. They went on to say that they wanted to give it to a family with children...and seeing as we said we had 12 at home, they had chosen us!
Now... we don't NEED a big screen t.v. and we wouldn't ever spend the money to buy one, but...what a gift the Lord has given us through this generous couple... really, the gift we are being given is an awareness that the Lord loves us and is aware of us...our needs and even our silly little wishes and desires. So I ask... If He can twice bless us with free big screen t.v.'s what can He not do?
