There is plenty that needs to be said about my last year and a quarter working in adult education in the 3rd Ward of Houston, Texas, the largest ghetto in the city of Houston. It was a very important experience. It will take some creativity to report the details. I have left my teaching position (which also included systems administration and hardware maintenance.
I recently changed jobs. I joined a group of artists and artisans (sculptors, writers, painters and musicians, so far) who are sharing a huge warehouse complex. I am the office manager for a very successful group. These guys that I work with include a bronze sculptor (he does a lot of lost wax, but many other methods, too), an artist who cuts and works sheet metal and much more (not just plasma cutting), and a stone (not just marble) sculptor / mason (he carves stone and applies his work in many different ways, including sculptures). These guys mostly support themselves through the funeral industry (50%), but they also do some awesome commissioned work for doing monuments and sculptures. We have lots of work for the City of Houston and other important buyers.
I am doing a lot of Photoshop (creative suite), website editing, AutoCAD, and general office stuff. I'm starting to do some writing as well, and I do a lot of technical problem solving, especially file conversions and electronic data management. I am getting home WAYYYY earlier and am able to actually have some time to attend to my web efforts. I miss my internet friends SOOOOOO MUCH!! I know thaT seemS RIDICULOUS, BUT i REALLY miss you guys.
I work from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. I have a PALM and I am eager to get back to enjoying AuthorsDen and my AD friends.
