Bride of Chrst

Well, my bride is on crutches. We spent a couple of hours in the LaSalle General Hospital last night trying to figure out what exactly happened to her ankle/foot. X-ray says it isn't broken, but we don't know what is causing the swelling and pain. Could be tendons, ligaments, or sprained muscles. Who knows? She was in tears worrying about whether or not she will have to walk the aisle on Friday with crutches. In fact, I was wondering that about myself after my knee went out Sunday morning before the service! So, as we go limping into our nuptials like a company of soldiers, bruised and battered, returning from the front, it dawned on me that perhaps I need to take another look at the scripture that tells us Jesus is coming back for a bride that is without spot or blemish. So often I have heard preachers quote those words with the concept that we better hurry up and clean up our act, because if we have a spot or a blemish on us, we will not be going in the rapture, because only those who are spotless will be going. Hmm. I thought none of us was righteous, not one? Even after being saved, my experience is that I still, personally, fall short of God's Glory. If it wasn't for Jesus and His grace and mercy I wouldn't be much use in His Kingdom at all. My flesh is still the home of much wicked desire if I allowed my spirit to succumb to its temptations. As I go back to the scripture, I discover that what makes His church, His bride, holy and spotless isn't within her own abilities anyway: "26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." (Ephesians 5:26-27) That HE might cleanse it...That HE might present it to HIMSELF... Sounds to me like the Lord Himself is the One who makes His bride spotless and without blemish! I may still have flaws, scars, and blemishes sometimes, but when Jesus comes, He will take my scars and turn them into a crown: He will take my rags and turn them into a white wedding garment, fit for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb! Until He comes, my intent is to live like the Bride of Christ He would want me to be!
