The Asian book market is only going to get better. Bangkok Blog:
With the coming of the ASEAN Community to Southeast Asia in a few years, I believe that the number of novels written in English and read by Asians will increase a hundred fold. At the present time in Thailand there is a push to learn English, not only to speak the language but to write it fluently. This is good news for the fiction writer because as the world gets much smaller via current technology and the miracle of the Internet, more books will be sold here than ever before.
I live in Bangkok, and already I can feel the presence of something big coming here to this side of the world in the next few years. With links to Burma, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, the PI, and Cambodia, the region has the potential of becoming one gigantic business hub with emphasis place on the common language of business ...English. The shelves of local bookstores and large commercial chains like Asia Books and Kinokuniya will welcome the presence of new writers and new novels written in English. As the ASEAN Community expands, the market for novels, textbooks, travel guides and the plethora of other books now getting exposure will also increase.
A friend of mine in Hong Kong, Ondrej Rak, a member of the popular Lyoness Group of community shoppers calls Southeast Asia, "A multi billion dollar market of day to day products." He's in on the ground floor and builds a 'Core Team' of network shoppers that take advantage of sizable shopping discounts through local merchants.
Meantime, Lyoness, founded in 2003, offers its members money back with every purchase. What started out as a business in four countries has since develoved into a prosperous international company where members and loyalty merchants benefit on a daily basis. It's a Win-Win situation. Members receive money back on purchases, while Loyalty Merechants gain loyal customers and are willing to give them special benefits.
If the Lyoness Company can see the lucrative shopping market that exists here in Southeast Asia, novelists trying to sell their books here should also see the burgeoning market. And whatsmore, it's only going to get better for everyone during the coming years. Kudos to Lyoness and their innovative approach to community shopping. Asian indeed is the place to live and the place to shop.
New and established authors should look at the Asian market as a place to increase book sales.
