Marooned on Planet Earth Update #2 2/25/2014 11:02:17 AM
I'll be updating the chapter I have posted here as I've been working on another draft of the story. Many things I wasn't sure of before have been solidified. I'm pretty psyched about how it's coming together now.
I have to admit, I don't write my stuff in the way we're supposed to. You know, the formula for each genre. My adults aren't seen from the knees down, or sound like they're speaking some odd gibberish in the background. I try to make it real. Mom and Dad aren't always all bad or all good. They might be strong secondary characters. Since my boys are probably my best buddies, I like to try for this relationship with some of the kids in my story. After all, just because a kid has a good relationship with his or her parents, doesn't mean things are going to be peachy keen all through his/her life. It doesn't stop bad things from happening to good people. Parents don't always have the answers to tough questions. Kids still have to make their own choices, or make wrong ones because of inexperience or pigheadedness or whatever reason. The conflict goes on.
I haven't taken the time to outline the next book in the series. Or even write down all the ideas I have for other books for the series. I should I know. Ideas can flit in and out of a brain in a nanosecond. Thought about getting a recorder to carry with me. Get my kids used to hearing me hash out an idea or scene.
We're living in a tiny mobile home in a trailer park now. Didn't think I would get used to the close proximity of my neighbors, but--it's not too bad. So far, everyone seems pleasant. Maybe a trailer park setting is in one of my characters' future. Anyway, the place is so small, I have no private place to go to write. That's something I have to get used to. Writing in spite of the TV going, or the games the boys are playing. It's pretty much an open floor plan. They're watching Falling Skies right now. So, of course, I am going to get distracted!
Maybe, I'll do a book outline right here when I'm ready to do it. We'll see.
Well, sugar is dropping . . . must eat. See you soon!
