Adam died God gave one rule and He explained the consequences. God said "Don't eat from the tree of Good and Evil or you will die."
As ever and always, God stayed true to His word. Adam ate and he died.
Have you ever considered what that must have felt like? We will never know what it means to fall from perfection to imperfection, as Adam felt his spiritual death.
As a speculative example of what Adam experienced, here is an excerpt from my eBook Squished! Why God Seemingly Destroys Our Fruit
"Before his banishment from Eden, the smell of death and decay weren’t even a possibility. What must have it been like to experience the smell of death for the very first time? We have it with us all the time. In and around our homes, a common odor we never think about; our garbage cans, disposal units, dead leaves, overripe fruit, old food, rust, mold, bathtub rings, dirty clothes, and body odor. We live with it and hardly ever think about it."
Because of Christ's death, burial and resurrection, we can only experience going from imperfection to perfection.
"For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality" 1 Corinthians 15:45
Adam reversed his life to death and killed us all, but Christ reversed the effects of death to life and gives to all freely.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16
