A sword is a sword! There's no difference. Well, no, actually that's not entirely true because... During the researches for my time- travel novel for early teens set in the Scotland of AD 210, and for my Celtic Fervour Series of historical adventures in first century Britain, I've got so happily sidetracked by information that is freely available on the internet.
Would the sword that my first century Roman legionary used in the Agricolan Campaigns of AD 84 have been the same type as the ones used during the Severan Campaigns of AD 201 northern Roman Britain? Did the sword type used in Britannia differ from that used in Germania of the same eras?
I asked myself loads of questions and decided to find out some answers. As a result, I've started a mini- series of posts on my own blog with information that I've been amassing. The mini bit is because I'm keeping the posts nice and short with just sufficient detail to point out the main differences in weapons used by different conquering armies over the centuries. My own focus is Roman/ Celtic Britain but I'll be covering other eras as well.
