Conservative or liberal approaches address temporal situations and are always imperfect, but God is perfect
This blog focuses on the Church, established by Jesus Christ. You know factionalism has no place within this Church from the Apostolic start. There is only ONE body of Christ (Romans 12: 5 RSV). There is "one Lord, one faith, one baptism" (Ephesians 4: 5). Conservative or liberal? A resounding NO!
Is Christ divided? (1 Corinthians 1: 13). This citation says no again. We must always remember that Christ's church transcends politics. His church is oriented toward the eternal Kingdom, not toward the temporal kingdoms of this world (modern-day politics). The church does not need to follow a political agenda in order to be fulfilled.
The church has existed for many centuries before our modern, American conservative/liberal divide was a reality in either politics or religion. We really don't need labels of conservative or liberal, for in Christ, "there is neither Jew nor Gentile, male or female, slave nor free" (Galatians 3: 28). You know yesterday's liberal may be today's conservative, or even vice-versa.
The words "conservative" and "liberal" surely indicate a variety of often-conflicting viewpoints. Many don't fit either category very well. The Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed has been a historical standard for over 1,600 years, and so this predates modern politics. Can we be conservative and traditional at the same time? Can we be liberal and traditional at the same time? We are all created in the image and likeness of God, and so we seek not labels, but peace.
