I just wrote my first new Christmas Poem this year

I've been away for several months, but I have just returned. I hope you'll read my blog and visit my den soon!

I've been spending some time thinking about what Christmas means to me. How about you? What do you think about this time of our year? I got into a conversation with a woman friend a few years ago, and I asked her that question. She shared with me how Christmas was an especially difficult time of the year for her. It made me sad to find out that it was actually a depressing time of the year for her , and how she was actually looking forward to it all being over with.
I remember when Christmas was all about tearing open bright, colorful wrapping paper to see what new toy Santa Claus had brought me. In those days, my parents and my younger brothers and sisters would go to a little church in nearby Norwood for the candlelight service, and then go home and hurry to bed, so that Santa would come. All the words said in church would go right over my little head, because I was too excited about Santa coming that evening.
Fast-forward to me at the age of 16 years old. That year I had understood for the first time, what all the celebrating was REALLY about...because I had received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Santa lost his place that year, as Jesus came front and center in my life.
It took a few Christmas' but eventually I understood that real joy doesn't come wrapped in a box. It came in the person of God's own unique Son. Now, I am so excited at Christmas, even if I don't get anything else. Jesus is enough. Really.
I've had times in my life when everything has been taken away, but my joy was undimmed.
I've written several poems in years gone by, in which I express this joy. This year, I wrote a new one.
Some of you have been asking about the book I've been writing for the past year, and so here's the scoop: It is nearly finished, and I am anticipating having it in stores this month. I named it "Early Works" because it is a compilation of the past ten years of poems I have composed. Right now, I am choosing which photographs to include in it.
