I'm still working on final edits of Marooned. I'm going to be trying a real book launch with this one.
I'm scared. I've never done it right before. Just finished the story, Worked up a cover, converted the Word doc or now docx and log in to my Amazon account. Well, Amazon is last on my list as I convert the ebook into .mobi and .epub at Draft2Digital and hit publish there. They now distribute to Amazon, but as I've a KDP account there since March 2011, I ain't giving it up. I let D2D send it to everyone else.
Am I making money? Not much. But then I have not begun to scream the word out to the world. How I'm going to find the courage to do that now, I don't know. I wish I could find it in a box of cereal. Not Wheaties. Something tastier.
I first have to make a list of what I have to do, and where to do it. How to do it might have to be researched, although I think I've found a go to person, maybe persons to help me with it. We'll see.
I need the courage to contact them for help. Can't really afford consulting services. For that money, I should just spend it on a great cover and some editing.
We'll see.
Decided I should spend more time on Goodreads as well as here. Need to schedule time, but not my lifetime. You know how easy it is to get lost in these sites, just chillin' and readin'. So, I'll set a timer, and spend an hour or so at each place, read, comment, follow people. Make the time count.
I recently finished a couple YA novels from a new series which deals with bullies. Marooned - Devynn's Dilemma is about bullies as well, but there my story and the other stories end in similarity. First, it's about the 'boys will be boys' thing and features some of my own experiences in school as a teen. So some sexual harassment is dealt with. Not just kids beating up on others for whatever reason. Or give me your lunch money or else. Although those are real and no kid should go through that crap every day.
Second, my adults are real, I hope, three dimensional characters. I found those in these stories to be one dimensional. Seems like the heroine didn't know them well on any level, so you never got why they did what they did. I was sure the family was heading for a break up. So far, no. We'll see what happens when Book 3 comes out this summer.
I liked the story line. And I read them to compare them to Devynn. See if I was on the right track, and I feel that I am. I have a really good feeling about this book, and am starting to brainstorm for the next one. Daveena. Devynn's cousin who'd been adopted out at birth - because her mother had a bad time with the birth and wasn't expected to live. Dad was missing in action overseas and the grandparents hadn't wanted the hassle of a newborn. Devynn and Daveena are only days apart in age.
I'll write more about it in a separate post. But, the adventures will continue!
Meanwhile on the romance end of my writing life, I've rejected a good part of what I'd already written for A Storm In My Heart and done a good deal of revision of that. I'm using a timeline to keep the story consistent with what is written in All For The Love Of Thomi, and The Resurrection Of Joleigh-Anna Kelmann. In Storm, you wil find out why Matt Kelmann died. And why Irvy walked away from Joleigh. I will have to go back into those stories to expand a little on it. But I feel pretty happy with what I've come up with to tie the stories together.
When Storm is finished, I'll offer the trio as a boxed set. Price to be set at a later date. Probably for a price less than I'd like to put on it.
Well, that's it for this time. I have to go post on my StrollingMemoryLane site. Yesterday and the day before were the 20th anniversaries of my parents passing. The reason for the What Are Wakes For, Anyway? article.
Hope your day was happy, and the next even better!
Until next time . . .
