Laughter Rocks 11/17/2018 9:58:53 PM
Another laugh in the day of... or how I keep my sanity in a world that sometimes seems pretty crazy. I've always been a serious person, but I've also always loved humor and what it does for the soul. It's the stuff that relieves tension , eases stress, and makes life just a little bit better ...especially when you can laugh at yourself.
I got a little dose of a laugh at myself a few days ago. Because I have COPD, it's something of a challenge for me when I attempt a full lap around the grocery store. The other day, I took the plunge and made it around the store. I arrived back out at my trusty vehicle and loaded the bags in the back. I pushed the button that wonderfully closes the hatch with no exertion on my part which always makes me smile, that kind of thing being a big deal when your energy levels are limited.
I jumped into the driver's seat and the rear camera was oddly showing me the sky instead of the parking lot, but since I'd seen the door come down, I didn't think it might be because of the angle of the door.I thought the camera had somehow moved out of place. I was wrong. A nice man came by and said my hatch was up. I pushed the inside button and it came down again. I started driving and other cars honked and pedestrians waved as I drove by. I got to the local cigar store and one man stood outside gesturing. I pushed the button again and again it came down, but the gestures and honking didn't stop. Don't get me wrong. These weren't rude honks or gestures. Somehow their tone was friendly ... nice ... caring. By now, there were two men outside the cigar store gesturing and yelling that my groceries were going to fall out. I pushed the magic button again and the door started back down. I started to drive but could see this time that the door was immediately going back up. I knew I needed to get out of the driving lane and started trying to do that. By now there were about six guys in front of the cigar store all yelling and gesturing. I finally got out and moved the groceries further back into the car, and the door closed and stayed down. The cigar store crowd cheered when I gave them a thumbs up. They gave me a standing ovation when I drove by with an closed hatch.
It was funny and I was laughing along with all of the others who were entertained by my bout with the grocery store bags and the automatic button. It's good to laugh. It makes me smile again right now as I write this and smiling makes you feel good too.
