Stop Teen Dating Violence February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month.
This is an issue close to my heart on a very personal level. Although abuse and violence can occur in adult relationships as well, this month focuses on young people who are in these relationships and have no idea how to get out of them.
The reason it's so important to be brave enough to be a voice is that oftentimes, young people don't know where they can turn to ask questions, seek advice or get the support they need when they are in these situations. Intervention as early as possible can make a true difference.
Relationships that young people get into now have a huge impact on what and who they will surround themselves with in the future. And when they aren't helped at this point, they may turn to self-destructive or maladaptive ways of coping with their situation, which adds to their struggle.
Join me this month and 'Huddle Up For Healthy Relationships' (https://www.loveisrespect.org/). Even something as small as sharing a message on social media can be enough to make a difference in the life of a young person going through this in silence.
