Trump Administration Collection of Hospital COVID-19 Data 7/17/2020 6:47:16 AM
Thoughts and questions on Trump Administration collecting hospital COVID-19 data. Can we trust the Trump administration with daily collection of COVID-19 hospitalization data regarding treatment of patients, number of available beds and ventilators and other applicable information vital to tracking the pandemic, as well as ensuring the management of this data versus the Center for Disease Control (CDC)? He's whining because of high number of infected persons and deaths reported daily.
This process began this morning, and already many concerns are being expressed within federal government agencies, and outside groups as to whether they will have access for research and other purposes as indicated by law, since data wasn't available this morning to those who attempted to access.
As a retired professional formerly credentialed in health information management, coding and compliance, I wonder if the American Health Information Management Association was at the table as a stakeholder to assist with the collection, management and dissemination of this most crucial information in a Century in an efficient and effective manner?
You can't blame the messenger (CDC) if Congress has been derelict in appropriating the necessary funds to the Centers for Disease Control to appropriately manage their work processes.
Given the track record of the Trump administration of politicizing any situation, and what seems to be an intense dislike of science, let's hope there will be no misuse of this data as proclaimed by people, and unnecessary deaths, caused by this change because of misinformation or no information being released to interested allowable persons to appropriately treat COVID-19 patients.
