Should HBUs use COVID emergency money for loan forgiveness
When I read about an Afro-American college and /or university forgiving student's debt {ie Clark Atlanta University, Grambling State University, Hampton University Etc.} I feel proud to be an American. Afro-Americans suffered so much over the years that they need a break.
HBCUs have been victimized by horrible neglect for years and years. Florida A&M was at one time one of the nation's most prestigious schools black or white. They were named university of the year by Time Magazine.
Years and years of horrible leadership especially relating to the "Marching 100" has made a national treasure to look like a waste of money.
In spite of my very strong feelings about HBCUs and keeping them solvent, I have doubts about using emergency aid to forgive student debt. COVID emergency money was intended to end starvation and ensure healthcare for poor people not to forgive student loans.
This is in contrast to what happened at Morehouse College where Robert F. Smith a good hearted entrepreneur offered to pay off student debt for a whole graduating class. I hope Mr. Smith goes to heaven for eternity. If every HBCU could find a SAINT like Smith we could save HBCUs without diverting $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ from starving and sick people.
