Some people sound like bigots but are just uneducated. I am the son of Hungarian Jewish Holocaust survivors. My mom was at Auschwitz and my dad stood side by side Raoul Wallenberg saving the Jews of Budapest.
One day during the Holocaust my dad went for a walk with a relative. A Nazi thought the relative looked Jewish so he asked,
"Are you Jewish?"
Before he could answer, the Nazi pulled down his pants to see if he was circumcised and then shot him to death.
My dad was so traumatized he made certain his children were not circumcised including the one born in Denver, Col.
During the Holocaust, dad's last name Moscowitz was a dead give away. Last but not least everybody carried papers.
My dad carried an official Hungarian document with a false name and written at the top in big letters "Christian Letter" meaning officially 'Not Jewish'
The blame should not go to Whoopi. Whoopi is not a bigot. The blame should go to our horrible school system. History is not taught anymore.
People are not only uneducated about the Holocaust but about Jews in general.
For example, I said to my neighbors,
"My family is Jewish but we eat pork anyway."
She replied,
"Jewish? I thought you are Hungarians."
