Anyone who kills four people in cold blood is not a sympathetic figure. Bryan Kohberger did something horrible. Not only did he kill four people in cold blood but he left all of Moscow, Idaho mourning.
Inspite of everything, I still believe the judge should have refused to allow him to plead guilty.
He should have been considered too crazy for any plea.
As someone crazy, he would have been forced to go through a complete psychiatric examination.
Maybe given time he would have gone with the insanity defense.
I am not a psychiatrist but I do have a Master of Public Administration in criminal justice.
Putting him away for life is not justice. Anybody who gets far enough to be a PhD student in criminal justice at Washington State University has something to offer society.
Even Ted Bundy gave something back to society. His advice helped catch the Green River Killer.
Furthermore, John Hinckley was rehabilitated and is a law abiding citizen. Hinckleys guitar performance sold out Madison Square Garden.
I would prefer death over suffering. Reagan Press Secretary Jim Brady suffered years of torment because of Hinckleys attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan.
Maybe Hinckley deserved life behind bars more than anyone but he got a lucky break.
I am NOT saying Kohberger should have automatically gotten to sidestep prison but denying him a guilty plea bargain would at least leave open the possibility of a Kohberger future.
Just like the unabomber, also a PhD he will rot in jail and we will never know what we don't know.
