Remember when 47 (45 back then) was screaming about the migrants in Ohio? “They’re eating the dogs! They’re eating the cats!” Even people who knew this wasn't true were horrified because they thought it was true and were quite distressed over the idea that Rover, Rice & Beans or Tabby Tacos were now on the menu.
Irony. No one was in the least upset that 47’s (and million's of others) daily diet consists of fast food cheeseburgers with bacon slices on the top.
No one shouts, “He’s eating the cows! He’s eating the pigs!” We’ve all been conditioned in Western society to look at cows and pigs (and chickens and fish) as food sources whereas dogs and cats are pets. Rover and Tabby are part of our families…not the animals slaughtered on industrial farm factories.
Irony. Pigs, in many ways, are smarter than dogs. Feral pigs maintain family ties. Cows, when separated from their families, become stressed and even depressed. Mama cows mourn the loss of a calf. Chickens form bonds with other chickens and with humans…well at least with humans who AREN’T slapping them into cages where they’re had their beaks broken and forced to stay in a space where they have zero room to turn around, while they wait for the day of slaughter. But no one is screaming, “They’re eating the cows! They’re eating the pigs! They’re eating the chickens!”
Sea creatures exhibit parenting behaviors and have an entire social behavioral network.
Irony. People drink milk on a daily basis. Milk that has been taken from cows who are kept continuously pregnant through artificial insemination in order to keep up the production. No one would ever imagine trying to extract milk from a mama dog and then drinking it themselves. (Not EVEN considering cats in this argument because, let’s be honest…if anyone was nuts enough to try and drain Tabby of her milk they wouldn’t have a face or a hand left! Tabby is a lot meaner than Elsie.)
Take five minutes out of your day: Do a search for “the truth about animals and the food industry.” Prepare to be shocked and (if you have a heart) saddened.
t’s not pretty. But it’s true.
I think we can assume that (at least in most Western societies) Rover and Tabby are safe from being turned into dinner. But, isn’t it time to give Elsie and Porky and Foghorn Leghorn and Bugs and Shawn the Sheep and Sebastian the crab the same chance to live?
Okay…you can’t fathom going without cheeseburgers or milk shakes or fried chicken or tuna casserole. If you can’t do it for the animals…how about doing it for your health?
There have been so many studies showing the correlation between meat and dairy and cancer and heart disease and diabetes and auto-immune diseases. There is real data out there about this.
I suggest everyone who’s interested in taking control of their own health do research.
Read or watch videos presented by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Brooke Goldner, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Douglas Graham. The approach may be different (Ex. Goldner leans more toward raw veggies/ Graham toward raw fruit/ Esselstyn is zero oil …and a big fan of oats) but the takeaway is the same. GO VEGAN.
No meat, no fowl, no dairy, no fish. Nothing that once had a face.
Stay away from ultra processed foods and refined sugars.
BONUS Your health is better.
DOUBLE BONUS. The animals live.
TRIPLE BONUS So might the planet.
