This book argues that the schools are mediocre, and deliberately so. We have to get rid of inferior theories and methods, and return to what is known to work.

The key is that citizens need to learn more about their schools and what goes on there. When you know that Constructivism is a fraud, then you can try to replace it. When you know why sight-words don't work, then you can agitate for phonics.

The book's full title is "Saving K-12 – What happened to our public schools? How do we fix them?"

 Personally, I believe we could have much better schools at much less cost. Doing things the wrong way all the time is expensive. Reading is taught badly, the kids can barely understand what's going on, so of course you have to teach it again in the following grade. A new kind of experts, more assessments, more remediations, and then you put them on Ritalin. All of this is unnecessary and morally disgusting.
