I have 500 education articles on the Internet so you know I’m passionate about education reform.

 Please trust me when I say that K-12 education is far more corrupt, and far more intellectually interesting, than most people imagine. John Dewey and his socialists came swooping in around 1900 and nothing has been on the up-and-up since that time.

All of you who are fascinated by crime novels should be thrilled to take a walk on the wild side, that is, public schools in America. This is Bernie Madoff country. The so-called experts scheme and lie.

I wrote an article last year comparing the duplicity in K-12 with the duplicity in the Catholic clergy. Sadly, sometimes people have secret goals they try to hide. Parents probably should be more paranoid than they want to bother with.

You can send your kid to a public school thinking that children automatically learn to read. That’s not true. We have 50 million functional illiterates. You may assume your kid will learn to do basic arithmetic. Not true. By the fourth or fifth grade most of them will be calculator-dependent. You may assume that they will learn basic things like where is the Berlin Wall. Not so. A professor at Notre Dame found that he had students who did not know who won the Civil War. He concluded that the purpose of our K-12 schools is to  instill “cultural amnesia.”

 So my main goal these days is to explain the many sophistries and cons used throughout our public schools. Reading is taught but kids learn to read slowly if at all. Etc., etc. You need weird minds to concoct this stuff.

You've probably heard of New Math, pushed upon the country in 1962. This thing was in development for years at a cost of nearly 100 million. But it was a phony. It taught innumeracy. Fortunately it was so over-the-top that the country rejected it but not to worry. Our education commissars came roaring back with Reform Math circa 1985 and Common Core Math 10 years ago. All junk math.

 The most depressing thing for me is that the movers and shakers who run the US do not seem to care about what is done to ordinary children. They are walked on and cognitively abused.

 Literary people should be especially incensed about the state of our schools. First of all, illiterates won’t buy your books. Meanwhile, society is going to fall down around your ears.
