What is the Christmas message?

We’ve been promised peace on earth. And how are we responding to this message? By eating Christmas pudding?

Listen to Mimi’s encounter with her handyman who argues that religion is the cause of all the wars in the world. Mimi responds with Scripture.

‘This is Love! According to God’s Will’ lists more than one hundred Scripture Verses about God’s Love, His Will and the promises and blessings which He has in store for His people; the people He is pleased with.

“I HATE religion!”

“Why is that?” I asked, wondering if it was Click here or the Scripture verses on my walls triggering that comment.

“Because religion is the cause of most of the wars and hatred in the world,” my newfound friend Brad said.

I asked him if he really believed that, and without even thinking about it, he shot back at me, “I do not believe it, I’m convinced of it!”

“All religions?” I asked him.

Without hesitation, he responded, “ALL of them.”

I said, “Funny that, because my religion tells me that we are to love each other.”

“What religion would that be?” he quizzed.

“I love God’s Word,” I said.

“Mmpphh, You’re One of Those Christians” 

“Mmpphh, you’re one of those Christians,” He said.

Clearly, Brad was assuming things. What was I to say to that? I did not know what he meant when he said, ‘one of those,’ but I wanted him to like me and not hate me because of my religion. 

But more than that, I wanted to get across to him that my religion is one of love. 

I was not quite sure how to go about that because Brad clearly had preconceived notions about Christianity, and what entails being a Christian or being someone that loves God’s Word.

I didn’t know what his preconceived ideas were, other than that they weren’t positive.

So I repeated what is true for me and said, “I love God’s Word.”

Brad came over and sat down next to me. “You mean the Bible, don’t you?”

I nodded affirmatively.

Well, that really got him going. He stood up again and walked up and down my living room with the spanner in his left hand, waving his arms up and down in despair. 

“The Bible has caused more wars and deaths and calamity than all other religions combined! How anyone can believe in fairy tales like that is beyond me.”

This is what happened at the time of Jesus’ birth.

Shepherds were taking care of their flock in the fields at night.

An Angel appeared before them and told them,

“I bring you Good News that is relevant to all people on earth.

A saviour has been born to you in Bethlehem. 

He is Christ the Lord.

You will recognise Him by this, 

he’ll be wrapped in bits of cloth and he is lying in a stable.”

Suddenly, a massive amount of the heavenly army appeared alongside the Angel. They all praised our heavenly Father and said,

This is Love,

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

How to live according to God’s will and please Him and obtain everlasting life? It is not what most churches preach nowadays.

This book has a loving message as it relates to the bible and Christianity. The book has many biblical references supporting the premise that the bible teaches love and kindness. The easy to read and poignant conversation between the two characters offers a point-counterpoint type of discourse. I liked that aspect of the book because that's exactly what real people do when they discuss religion. "Isn't religion responsible for hurtful aspects of humanity?" "Well, actually the Bible says this..." and the book presents a compelling case to view religion within a compassionate and loving mindset. A wonderful read with a positive message! I love the author’s way of writing: clear, open, straightforward, focused, short and always full of wisdom. This is a good book to read especially for those who have questions and confusions about Christianity and God’s love. It doesn’t impose but specifically answers and informs those who need clarity and a reminder about religion and the word of God.
