I hear you bragging about the fool you’ve got
Ain’t nothing but a clown and using is what it is all about
You can get this and that with ease
And don’t have to beg and say please
You always get what you want and have plenty to spend
You say you had a fool but the one you got over on was your friend.
You always thought that there were plenty of suckers to play your game
Now you’ve found someone you love and they’re doing the same
You look back longingly at what you had
Now you realize what you had and feel bad
And you wish you could change what you did and make amends
Realizing now the one you thought you got over on was your friend.
Sometimes it takes these things to happen to open your eyes
For it to sink in and to realize
That love is not from a fool but from a person of trust
Don’t look at the outside but from within a must
And you’ll come to realize in the end
The one you got over on was your friend.
