Sometimes the trees show a little more than bark and leaves.

The tree that stands in my backyard
Holds many, many things.
From early spring and into fall
Its mighty stature sings.

Birds of every shape and color
Come calling in it's arms.
They trill into their loved ones ears
And screech their own alarms.

Bushy tailed squirrels jump playfully
From branch to branch again.
They collect whatever lay about
Like little wayward men.

Occasionally, a feline
Will climb upon its bark
The tree will stand so straight and tall
Allowing the cat's lark.

The dogs will howl unbearably;
Staring into their eyes.
Taunting meows are heard above
As words of wonder flies.

My heart goes out even further;
The tree holds so much more,
Children climbing in its branches
The me from long before.

So winter brings its long cold nap
Where snow and ice will lay.
But memories will keep it warm
Until the Spring sun's ray.
