To the line of heroes
A certain sadness dwells in my heart
as I think of you in this deadly time.
You weren't in the big city,
you were just rowdy men in a little town,
working to keep everyone safe in a place
less dangerous than a huge metropolis.
You also dealt with the unpleasant side of life,
violent death and sudden tragedy,
public disturbance and misguided malice
disguised as fun.
I look at the weary eyes and saddened faces
of the blue collar heroes and follow the line to you.
Paunchy at times, but always ready to face
whatever came through the door.
You earned your coffee and donuts,
but you were just as those in the big city,
dedicated to your community.
No wonder you liked not having business.
Salute!
Thank you so much
