Are you crouching
around the corner,
your black breath
upon my neck,
your pitiless eyes
searching among
my faultering bones
for some aching
place to strike
your blow?
No, no, you
needn't crouch,
you needn't hide
for I no longer dread
your agonizing embrace,
having lived in all that's
full and all that's foul.
Ha, yes! Your
fiendish terror's
what really died.

This is my first review of your work and I'm impressed. Perhaps it is partially due to the identity I acknowledge with this piece. You have duality of premise potential here, one of death, one of a relationship's end. Either focus took me back to a time I vented on a disastrous marriage in my poem "Duplicity Banished" several years ago. But of greater appreciation is the flow of words that make up this succinct metaphoric pronouncement of baggage (relationship) or possibly a near-death experience (which can simulate the crushing effect of a failed relationship as well). Altogether, your prosetry style is well structured for both the lover of poetry and story. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

Death smiles at us every day, all we can do is smile back! Caesar talked about this too. This is why he declined bodyguards stating he's rather die once than die 1,000 deaths every day living in fear. Good poem and good point. The grim reaper is really Gumby in a black cape trying to scare people. Screw them!!!!! I'll kick his ass:-)
