                                                  Alienation Now

                                          Oh, I'm feeling those chill
                                          waves of revulsion again,
                                          life running only on
                                          automatic pilot, feelings
                                          bashed into numbness
                                          as the nation stumbles.
                                          Tell me, can there be
                                          a celebration of the void?

                                          For such a world,
                                          such a credo then:
                                          Trust nobody.
                                          Grasp everything.
                                          Give nothing.
                                          Demand all at the top
                                          of your voice or in
                                          sinister whispers.
                                          It hardly matters.
                                          Celebrate only
                                          nothingness.
                                          Covet the lie.
                                          Revere the hustler
                                          Be ecstatic at his art.
                                          Pant for perfection.
                                          Envy the excellant.
                                          Despise the innocent.
                                          But most of all,
                                          Just wait and wait
                                          and wait until
                                          it all ebbs away
                                          lost forever.

And, as your poem proffers, to embrace the auto pilot is to have nothing compelling to do except wait for the end. Unfortunately, far too many unconsciously embrace such a notion.

i know the feeling, bennett. normally a peaceful walk in some unspoiled place of natural beauty brings me back to that ever fleeting state of bliss...

Yes, I think people today are in the void of self, me, me, me-- that is a void that makes you believe you are alone in the world and that no one else matters, until they become the other, and the other is always much easier to despise. very thought provoking. I wish things were not like they are now.

I think Peter said it best and I can't best that. Thank you, Ben. Love and peace,

Funny that you just wrote a poem about the void. We've been talking too much, as I just wrote one too. This is one my favorites from you. Hard not to get sucked in. Temptation resisted is the true measure of character. Nicely done!
