World Anew
Twilight toys with my eyelids,
as dappled dawn approaches.
Birdsong flits through the trees of
my mind, as colored confetti,
tickling my ears.
A soft splash awakens me, as
a feeding fish snatches a fly.
I am startled by this new world:
it is not the world in which I slept.
My mind reels at the implication, while
my body rushes in exhilaration.
My fingers press into the sand as
I push myself erect,
vigilant, yet enthralled;
apprehensive, yet adventurous.
As the morning mist releases the sands,
I discover that I am not alone,
her barefoot tracks reveal that she has
discovered me, yet fled into cover.
Perhaps she watches, even now.
Suddenly, I feel the pressure,
her eyes press against my senses.
I smile and turn. Which way to go?
A movement catches my eye,
she appears, holding a fruit, extended.
I am suddenly ravenous.
