The Beckoning

Come closer,

Young fragile flower of

Innocence and youth, and

I will tell you secrets –

Ancient things, and

Things that ought to be.

You will have knowledge

That even your parents will

View with envy.

Come closer, will you?

For my voice is weak, and

I’d not have you miss a word.

I’ve tales to tell, and

Wisdom to reveal, that

No one’s ever heard.

Nooo!

The light!  The light!

Get away from me,

Young innocent,

I cannot stand the light.

Why do you tempt me as

A delicate morsel, then slay,

With brilliant blades of white?
