Arachnid Nightmares
Thrashing wildly, held fast --
ripples of my struggle fade,
then are renewed in fear.
Messages shaken across the thread.
Sensing prey, she comes
skittering across the web,
focusing on warmth, life,
her mandibles clicking.
Terror quickens my soul,
intensifies my struggle --
to no avail.
She rushes to me,
venom dripping from hungry lips,
bending down to bite --
Squeeee ...
Radio Deejay tells me to wake up,
it's Three Fifteen.
Soft jazz slowly relaxes
the standing hair of my arms.
Whew!
Just a nightmare.
Think I'll grab a shower.
Thrashing wildly, held fast ...

There's a spider web outside my house which is strung between two tree branches right at the stairs to my back patio overlooking the backyard. It's only there in the summer. I stand and watch this drama unfold almost every night. It's funny that you post this now, as these gruesome scenes are quite fresh in my mind, minus the shower of course. Nicely done Dallas!
Yikes! As one who is arachniphobic, this one really got to me. WOW! Chilling write; glad it was only a dream! (If I have nightmares about spiders tonight, I know who to blame: YEW! LOL) Well done!
