So Weary

Sometimes, we're overwhelmed by all the devastation around us; by so much suffering and greed. We're overcome by that helpless feeling of not being able to seemingly make a big difference. And yet, we know we must continue "to give of self."

Yea ... I am so weary

I yearn for a long deep sleep
A sleep filled with ancient dreams
Of spiritual realms, of healing waters
Of sky and land and star-burst colors
The astral scenes of divinity's themes

Far away from man's self-made mess
Far away from ego and selfishness
Away from disorder and lawlessness
Away from greed and material quests

Yea ... I am so weary

Life demands we commit to its rituals
Parade in its pageantry, lend voice to its story
Being mindful of countless other lives
Whose tears and laughter color our lives
Weaving world history, affecting world destiny

Life demands that we learn from our mistakes
That we love or hate situations or things
That we adapt, change, fight or flee
Delving deep into its mystery
Becoming great beings with gilded wings

Yet, yea ... I am so weary
I yearn for a long deep sleep
But not ... just ... yet
But not ... just ... yet

No, Gwen, not just yet...

We all tire, I know that ache and weight, too, but it is why we are here, isn't it? To learn how to love when love feels heavy, to find more strength when we are sure we have none left... to go on, and to become more, so that others, too, can become more...

Such an emotional poem. It catches the mood I often fall into. All I can say is: "Vaya con Dios -- and relax until the fog clears.

Powerful and thought provoking poem. But if you go into a deep sleep I am afraid you will not wake up, som please my dear friend just have a sleep to rest.mI don't think this poem is calling you to come to the other world where all what you mentioned and yearn to see are available.
thanks Gwen Dickerson for sharing this wonderful poem

Life demands so much it's easy to get weary of the routine, punctuated with crises. We forget, a century ago, everything was simpler, but much tougher. Everyone slept peaceful nights half of ours. Good metaphor for life over death, though.

A profound thought's striker on ontological matters
dealt with symbolistical imagery of realistic feelings.
"So Weary" is Poetry's tasks fulfilled written with words
from the lexicon of a wise soul.

I salute You, Sublime Poet!

There are places far away from "man's self-made mess." Aquainting ourselves with the merriment of assorted artists through venues such as Renaissance fairs, canoe-building classes, the sweet, ancient wisdom of the tapping of maple trees and maple syrup making, and museums of antiquity offer us "healing waters." These ways should be kept alive because they work. Thanks, Gwen for this poem So Weary. It does make a big difference.
