I wrote this in the late 1980s as I let some suppressed childhood memories heal into tears.

Lonely Nights

By The Poetess (SRP)

Throughout my childhood

I'd often lay awake at night

Hearing the silence creep in.

When only crickets could be heard

And every light had dimmed,

I'd hear her quiet sobs.

Each time, like the first,

My heart would loudly throb

As tears flooded my eyes.

I wonder if she felt as sad -

If she felt as alone as I.

On those long, dark nights

When sadness engulfed our home,

I wonder if Mother knew

That she never cried alone.

You brought us into the dark sadness of that lonely place where you united with your mother's heart even if she were unaware of your tears of support and sadness

Dear Emile, if you read my work you will realize that much of it is about embracing feelings and healing the past with a deep realization of what you seem to have assumed I've not yet realized. I appreciate your intent, but please be careful not to ass-u-me, cause we know what that can do. ;-).

Dear Poetess, You will realize later that what you wrote is valuable. Sadness is not what we think and is not as bad as many believe. When we touch our soul we feel sad and longing without knowing why. This I call it the moment of grace as we miss the place where we come from. We feel this longing especially in our younger years. This is so deeply meaningful and it touched my heart. When I read it again and again, it felt so real and my heart pounded. You have a gift of bringing life to your verses. Well done! Peace and love in Christ.
