First Christmas without her

It was hard when she said farewell
Hard to listen to the death knell
Hard not to hear her voice
Hard not to have the choice

Of visiting or staying at home
Or hearing her voice on the phone
Her familiar laughs at Christmastime
Welcoming when the doorbells chime

Seeing her face as she opens a gift
Listening to her reminisce
Christmases in years gone by
Seeing a tear well in her eye

The warmth of her comforting cuddle
When all your life is in a muddle
Christmastime without her smile
Another hurdle, another stile

But she will be with you at Christmastime
When you drink your festive wine
Raise your glass with good cheer
Then you’ll feel her very near

Sorry but I read your poetry out of place and reviewed another you wrote when she was still alive. Know what you went through as lost my hubby of 17 years Aug 17 07, still miss him on holidays and every day in fact. Hard to get over someone you have loved very much.

My husband asked me to locate this poem for a luminary service he is conducting at a local cemetery today. Thanks for a beautiful piece.

If she were there with you, what do you think you would do? Hold her close oh so tight, hug and kiss her with all your might. Or look ar her and turn away, to live in dreams another day. Bill
