What makes a person

build a wall

that wraps around themselves

saying I cannot

do this or that

I cannot be what I want to be

set out to do

what you say

that would not be right,

her I must stay.

How sad is it

that some set rules

preventing them to aspire

to act,

or write,

sing maybe dance

they cannot change their attire.

They stay forever

locked within

unable to break free

not only is it

I cannot be

but a sad faint voice

saying 'this is me.'

With encouragement in time

they may begin to see

test out their boundry

as to what maybe,

then when they do

give them praise

let them feel

at peace at ease.

That faint voice 

may have to change

for 'this is me'

has rearranged,

moved aside the restrictive rules

become someone

who can at last

move on not hide
