We can take for granted our reflection, but pause look at it, look into it.
I peer into a mirror
who do I see
the image of someone
who looks just like me.
Yet as I look
I see beyond his eyes
another person
that has slipped me by,
the child in me
that I once used to be
adorned with freckles
from ear to ear.
Yet the face of my reflection
all freckles now gone
has aged like Whiskey
grown older more strong,
can smile at that child
even though sad
it might be
that mirror has put a smile on me.
