He lived like a hero
but was not to his kin
always the one
telling the barman
'Fill em all up, same again.'
Wasted years
like a ship adrift
the bills never paid
with nothing in the fridge.
Lies upon lies
he told all the time
his wife and his children
always left crying.
Then he hit hard times
no money coming in
the barman gave no credit
his friends disappearing.
He never went home
just a drifter on the street
slowly lost in bottles
that others leave.
A desperate man with no resolve
looked in a shop window
his flesh went cold,
'Is that me? Oh god set me free
This cannot be me.'
A passing stranger saw him
stopped to have a word,
what he heard he followed
and drink became a word.
His life was all in tatters
somethings never return,
but after a year
he could again begin,
always on the lookout
learning to be free,
no longer a ship adrift
in in unsafe sea.
Be always safe,
Karen
