A Winter’s Tale
Winter crept in while I was all alone,
on the phone ordering pizza, and
I did not even know it was there,
did not hear it’s icy footfalls or
sense it’s dreary presence until
I felt its cold, unforgiving breath
upon my neck, and I turned
quickly to catch it in the act,
but it retreated outside before
I could grasp it, tell it I was
not ready, not yet, for Fall
had only just begun, and I
was so enjoying the autumn sun.
