California, here we go!

Poem Artwork

Home for the Strange

(To the tune of Home on the Range)

Oh, give me a home

where illegal aliens don’t roam

and the hot babes and hot rods all play

Where seldom is heard

a dumb rapper’s words

and your eyes are not cloudy all day

Home, home for the strange,

that’s what old Cal has become

where TV's full of queers

and we cry in our beers

recalling old California days.

Oh, give me a land

where the music is grand

and singers can really sing songs

and the big movie stars

don’t sniff coke in their cars

and fat chicks don’t get to wear thongs

Home, home for the strange

the state's in a state of despair

where gang bangers bang

and life don’t mean a thang

and you can’t get here from there

We’ve got the ACLU

always ordering you

how to think, to behave and to vote

and our legislators bore

everyone to a snore

while screwing up life by rote.

Home, home for the strange

Shoot quick while they’re still in range

Can’t afford a house,

your broker’s a louse

and the leeches steal all your loose change.

To try and change your fate

you move out of state

hoping people are nicer over there.

But to your surprise

you’re wrong in your surmise

Hell, life is just so damned unfair
