Thank you, Dear Jesus, for waiting. What appears to us as wasted years...could be God's Perfect Timing. Pressing-on.

Poem Artwork

So many wasted years…I wish I knew you then

but pretending you weren’t there…I made other ‘friends’

Having so many frivolous, empty flings

I deliberately ignored Your pleas, doing other things

When I consider the pain I caused You

how I regret the sordid view!

So sorry I rejected…You…Your Love, Your Peace

so sorry I took You for granted…feasting on carnal grease

Yes…I know…You don’t hold grudges

but my stupidity sometimes nudges

Bordering on forever I acted like…You…I didn’t know

while all the while…in my heart of hearts…I did so

The only thing that soothes me in this matter

You forgave and washed me clean…with Mercy splatter

Now there’s a present joy that this world can’t touch

Oh, my Dear Lord, I thank You ever so much!

You didn’t have to wait around…the way You did

tolerating my vile actions, rescuing me from that pit…where I slid

You could have turned away from me and never looked back

I would have certainly deserved it…this worthless sack

But you knew I’d come to accept your will…take Your hand

and though it took a while…You knew I’d follow your plan

Like a new born babe’s first breath…You filled my corroded lungs

and out of me gushed songs of poetry never before sung

A living river…spinning tapestries of rhymes and words

flowed in a way that I…or others…had never heard

I’m so glad You bathed this lost soul…preen

for it’s in Your fields that I now glean

Every once in a while…the darkness seeks to return

and the enemy…in sheep’s clothing…tries beguiling a yearn

But You’ve left a mark that can’t be erased

Morning, noon and night…I see Your encouraging face

Our walk together has been good…when I stop and think

the time has sped by…like a wink

Yet, those years weren't really…a waste...

as Your 'perfect plan' stood without haste

Still...wish I hadn't procrastinated...that from young I'd been your pen

...I wish I knew You then
