Hug Me
She sits there so lost
in a distant land.
She tries to speak
words I can’t understand.
Mom hug me, I’m scared.
Her hair so soft,
eyes so blue.
Skin like a baby,
so soft, so new.
Mom hug me, I’m scared.
She struggles to eat,
chokes on her food.
Little spoonfuls I give her
effecting her mood.
Mom hug me, I’m scared.
She touches my hand,
too weak to stand.
She does her best to
put my mind at rest.
Mom hug me, I’m scared.
She looks for my Dad,
wandering eyes so sad.
Where is he, she tries to say,
knowing he’s gone away.
Mom hug me, I’m scared.
I love you, she said
as she looked into my eyes.
I felt her words in my heart,
as she begins to die.
Mom hug me, I’m scared.
