Gypsy Child
You came to this country
From a foreign land.
The age of thirteen
Never to see your parents again.
A trunk full of possessions
You had a vision a plan.
Just a gypsy child
A grown woman so wild.
A strong mind of determination.
And, a heart full of gold
You raised a family
Until the day you grew old.
I travelled across the miles
Determined to reach your side.
I’ll never forget that day
Walking in, and you smiled.
Holding your trembling hand
Together we prayed.
I was only twenty five
When you closed your eyes.
You’ve passed on your strength
And, the wild gypsy child.
You’ve passed on your love, and
Your faith in the heavens above.
I’m your gypsy grandchild, and
I’m looking forward to the view.
I’m your gypsy grandchild
Still filling your shoes.
