SELF-ACCOUNTABILITY

What do you do when your conscience tells you it
is wrong, when no one is watching and when you believe
no one else will ever know and you don't want anyone
else to know? Self-accountability means that you will
be no less ethical or moral when your actions are
known to others than when they are known only to you.

Self-accountability is the noblest of all noble qualities.
In a real sense all other virtues, such as honesty and
truth, are inherent in self-accountability.

The meaning expressed in Shakespeare's assertion,
"To thine own self be true , and it must follow, as the
night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man,"
is rooted in and derived from self-accountability. Being
true greatly depends on being acountable to oneself.
It is this that enables a person to take responsibility for
the choices he makes and accept the conseqences
of those choices, even when they are not the ones
expected. Self-accountability enalbes a person to
own all the expressions of his behavior.

Self-acountability is the cornerstone or essence of
ethics and being a moral person. It is not just what
we do when others are observing us or when we
think they are likely to find out what we do but what
we do when no one is watching and we believe that
no one is likely to discover what is a secret hidden
from everyone else.

Never is a person more responsible and authentic
than when he is accountable to self, above being
accountable to anyone else. Framing Shakespeare's
comment regarding "not being false to others" the
read is, be accountable to yourself and then you
cannot be unaccountable to any one else. Good,
right and beauty are actualized in self-accountability.

Cease making primary being accountable to others.
Be aware that the most important things in life a
person has to do for himself. And the most important
thing a person can do for himself is to be accountable
to himself. Utimately we can say, self-acountability is
the supreme court of one's soul and personhood.

Question: Where do you stand?

Life is too short to worry about what others do or don't do. It's their life and their choice to keep secret. Why would that bother you to not know other people's businesses, or secrets? Each of us live our own lives, no one is obligated to make his/her life an open book. Unless you are running some kind of gossipy magazine just leave others alone! What you don't know won't hurt you.
