Intimacy by definition is marked by
close and warm friendship. But persons
in an intimate relationship may become
intimate enemies as portrayed in "A
Strange Intimacy."
It is a strange intimacy to be adrift in a man-woman
relationship that is meant for lovers or lovers-friends
without the display of affection and appreciation for
each other. It may be a marriage or an intimate
partenership of a man and a woman who initially
and for a while were sexually engaging, physically
embracing, heartfelt, touching and appreciated. But
sooner or later that relationship became toxic, i.e.,
these partners became intimate enemies: no longer sleeping in the same bed, eating together, hardly talking with each other and when talking being
critical, argumentative and hostile toward each
other.
Yet, these two persons may remain in a strange
intimacy relationship. In public they may posture
as lovers. But no sooner than they are no longer
in the eye of the public they revert to enmity for
each other.
A strange intimacy relationship may last for years
because each person is receiving benefits that
neither want to lose. One or both may be
prostituting. Despite the mutual destruction they
may faithfully keep their vows, "Until death do us
part," which may cause their debilittation or
premature demise.
It is a strange intimacy to be adrift in a man-woman
relationship meant for lovers or lovers-friends,
without affection for each other, to live in close
proximity with minds and hearts that offer no
salutation greets and no signs of self-respect
or amelioration.
(This discourse is not meant to offer a solution
for "a strange intimacy" relationship. Hopefully
the reader will look into the mirror and see
himself/herself in light of the aforementioned
offering. Having done that the question is
:"What will the person do who desires to be
neither a stranger to himself-herself or his/her
intimate partner?)
ONE WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE 'ROOT' CAUSE OF SUCH A RELATIONSHIP. IT DIDN'T JUST 'MATERIALIZE' ONE DAY...OUT OF THE BLUE. THERE IS A 'REASON' FOR THE 'STRANGE INTIMACY' THAT PRESENTLY EXISTS. THAT 'REASON' HAS TO BE WILLINGLY ADDRESSED, CANDIDLY, BY BOTH PARTIES. A COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER, STAYS TOGETHER AND WHERE THE FEAR AND LOVE OF GOD DOES NOW FLOW...THERE IS NOTHING. Too many people are and what they call, codependent relationships. Totally unsatisfying but feed on one another in a way that both parties can't quit. It's a shame. What a waste of caring and emotion.
