Death is A Lady
The Lady came to me last night
She smiled and spread her arms
Around her light was shining bright.
She tempted with her charms.
I shook my head as I said, No!
Although your beauty leads me on,
With you I cannot go
I‘d rather stay and greet the sun.
She smiled as she looked at me
With words of love she spoke
“I only come to speak with thee,
For you I have not closed the book.”
“I’ve seen you laying there in pain,
In darkness, I’ve wiped away your tears.
Oft’ I have heard you whisper my name.
Within my heart I know your fears.”
I’ve heard you weeping in the night.
Reached out to touch your broken heart
I heard your pleading, felt your fright
Since she said that you must part
“With me in love you cannot fall.
You cannot give your heart to me.
Be patient and await my call.
Soon I shall come and set you free.”
I felt her kiss upon my cheek.
She smiled and faded from my sight.
I opened my mouth but could not speak.
I awoke to the warmth of morning light.
I will await her beckoning call,
She’ll come to me from places shady.
I’ll go to her beyond the pall.
At Last be free to greet the lady.
