Five years after Stanley's Shotgun Wedding. Chapter Two of Stanley's Fate. See Prior submission.

Panic Stations
******************

Five years after that fateful day
When Stanley took his bride.
When for his sins he’d had to pay
And Maria had taken him for a ride.

He’d been sitting in his easy chair
Watching the footy on the box
Drinking his beer, without a care
In his shorts and smelly socks.

Maria called from the kitchen door,
“Stanley! I think it’s time”.
“Oh God” he thought, a false alarm,
I’ll miss the game; it’s a Bloody crime.

Three times he’d carried her to the car,
Her bag tucked under his arm.
To Maternity rushed, it wasn’t fare,
And her screams, he tried to stay calm.

“It isn’t fair” our Stanley thought
As he turned to pick up her bag.
A peaceful life is what he sought,
It’s enough to make a man gag.

He drove her to maternity
And carried her into the waiting room
The Doctor came at half past three
And announced aloud poor Stanley’s doom.

The Nurses came in, one by one,
Stanley started to sweat
Twins! No way, what have I done”
But five made up the set.

His eyes were glazed, his brain shut down
As he swayed and fell to the floor.
Upon his face was a puzzled frown
As the in-laws rushed in the door.

Our Stan was placed on a mobile bed,
A needle shoved in his arm.
A faraway thought remained in his head.
“Stanley, I think it’s time”.

Stanley still sits in his easy chair,
Watches Sesame Street on the box.
Around him his tribe plays on the floor,
As he’s folding nappies and sox.

Sometimes he wonders how this could be
Each day the in-laws drive him insane.
He cannot recall what happened that day.
And which team had won that football game.
