There are those who may not like this. Believe me when I say this was difficult to write, and I will probably have to edit at some time.

The Forsaken
**********************

He hides in the shadows each lonely night
He’s hungry and tired, no place to sleep.
He tries to forget the cause of his plight,
The road that he travels is rocky and steep.

He looks to the sky, cold rain on his face.
Remembers the Family he left in full flight.
Some memories he wished that he could erase,
The nocturnal visits from Daddy each night.

He wanted to kill him for the things that he’d done.
How he would come to him, his sweet little Boy
He stank of stale whiskey, tobacco and Rum.
Said, “This is how Daddies love their little Boys.”

He tried to say no as he endured the pain
His innocence shattered he wished he were dead.
Deep in his soul felt the guilt and the shame.
And Daddy would smile as he left the bed.

He had promised to no one his story he’d tell.
His Daddy had told him they would take him away.
Deep in his heart he lives his own private Hell,
In dimly lit alleys, where terror holds sway.

He moves into the light as a man comes his way
He tries not to shiver out in the cold.
If the man has some money, he might want to play
To live in the alleys he had to be bold

Today is his Birthday and he wants to eat
Burgers, fries, and chocolate ice cream
He may earn enough for a bed where he’d sleep.
Sleep and forget he had just turned thirteen.

Sadly, this poem is real to far too many children in this world. Well written with much empathy and emotion

This was one of the best poems I've read on the Den in a very, very and unfortunately, long time. This was priceless. Robin, this is a wonderful poem. You should be proud! The world described here is dark and one that touches us not only when we hear stories, but you've conveyed this properly and so well to touch us as if it were a live cinema running. Stunning! If I had my own contest you'd get first ribbon... twice.

Too true of too many.
Too true of far too many, Robin.
There is a world of hell on the dark side, and ignoring it won't make it go away.
May this be a light and a reminder not to ignore the questionable, not to accept the rising tide, to challenge the onslaught of depravity and to be very very wise in the care of our own children.
Thank you for sharing this sobering poem.

A gutwrenching, powerful poem Robin that does not need a word of editing..its message is too important. Very well done, Robin.

This powerful rivetting poem makes me angry that these things exist in this world. I give you so much credit for writing it Robin. It's about time our country did something to help put a stop to it. Innocence lost because of someones lust.It just angers me to now end. I say...if you can.....look to God and look to the future. Do not edit this poem robin...it is from your heart. Blessings to you. "The Forsaken" is a sad story, but its messages - when understood - brings a lesson of life.

This is a profound poem, "The Forsaken" instructs and mellows, and shows the right ways.

I have learned from this sage writing.

Extremely powerful poem, Robin. And an extremely powerful reminder that child abuse does exist in our world, and does cause tremendous pain and suffering to its victims. Well done.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
