I often wonder what possesses someone to commit despicable acts against society. What goes through their minds as they hold the innocent at their mercy.

With windward winds storms rage
claiming love that once was.
Innocence lies victim to
the evil which torments society.

Insatiable hunger erases a
short lifetime of happiness.
Twisted shards of flesh and bone
lay violated by man and beast.

Creatures carry tiny morsels
to their secret dens.
Yet, not far away the monster
sits revelling in his contentment.

Reason is no concern for this
ogre. The pleasure of
destruction is enough satisfaction.
The smell of fear his adrenalin.

Lips ooze drops of blood
satisfying this voracious appetite.
Never sated, he has tasted a beginning
and hopes to see no end.

Paul,

I don't watch much TV but I do like to catch those news specials on predators & criminals. It always awes me to see how nonchalant they are about their crimes. Your poem leaves me in awe too, because you have shown them for what they really are; monsters. A great, creative piece! I am in agreement!

Excellent write. When satan has taken one's soul, it is difficult to stop. At what level can satan be satisfied?
