The moss has nearly overtaken the pathway;
The slate’s subtle shades of gray and russet
Hide beneath the soft olive greens.

Change, neither good or bad, is inevitable.

The singing creek behind the house has widened;
Once narrow and shallow, it has spread
And deepened with the rains of many years.

Change, neither good or bad, is inevitable.

The swing sits silently under the oak,
Its chains are rusted, its seat is worn;
The children’s chirping laughter now a memory.

Change, neither good or bad, is inevitable.

The seasons take their turns at sovereignty;
Their gifts of color, warmth and coolness,
Effect change on all of nature’s children.

Change, neither good or bad, is inevitable.

We are surrounded, enveloped and re-created
In the seas of change that ebb and flow in our lives;
We dance in the chaos of eternal evolution.

Love, our only anchor, remains our unchanging support.
