Aesop called today from New York City
Fall’s arrived and the trees are quite pretty -
He said he’d done what he went there to do…
With his own eyes to see what his heart knew was true .
He hopped on a subway and went to Ground Zero
Where so many died and so many were heroes.
He stood with the crowd - oh so quiet they were
And his eyes filled with tears, everything was a blur.
All the pain and the suffering of that day, of that hour
When the world changed forever with the tumbling towers
Touched Aesop’s heart as it ached for the humans who died
And those left behind who remember and still cry.
A tiny American flag he did leave at the site
A salute he performed then he left in the night.
As he hopped on a bus and headed for home,
He felt oh so tired of this “life on the roam”.
As he rested his head on his bundle of clothes
So exhausted was he from his nose to his toes.
He fell fast asleep and dreamt gerbil dreams,
Full of fun, food, and happiness - no more traveling schemes!
As for YOU, Pam, this is a delightful write; enjoyed reading Aesop's latest tale! Wish I could visit NYC, but without the Twin Towers, it just wouldn't be the same. :( I can't stand to look at the skyline without the Towers gracing its skyline; it still causes me to tear up and cry!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :(
