First Tracks
We were five when it all started,
this race to be the first.
We are brothers, he and I,
and wining our big thirst.
On every stormy winter morn
we rushed to get outside,
and leave deep in a fresh new snow
our footprint there with pride.
And as we grew our tracks evolved
to trikes then bikes then cars,
and when we came to be adults
that game we played still ours.
So all through life we fought the fight
we compete with all our might,
but now as gents we near our end
this fight it will subside.
The game near over now we find
we cast our eagerness aside
for neither wants to win the game
in the final snow of life.
