based on a translation of "Gli Amici" by Francesco Mega
I still think of old friends like a family
I think of the old days like photos of memory
or a garden that's made of remembrance
in which we planted the roots of our friendship
of the time that we grew close together
in agreement or adversity
with no guess as to what was the future creating
when we sang "que sera"
and we never knew what was waiting
no idea
but the process of pairing together
made friends into lovers and left some alone
and the ones who became unconnected
apart and rejected went off on their own
it's no fun to be late to the party
in the corner just watching them dancing
and after a while they gave up and departed
to find their romance
when you're older then life can be bitter
you live your own promise and friends go away
and when looking at pictures of memory
forget what they looked like
forget what they say
all the arguments seem to be silly
twas a meaningless dream that I dreamt
I can not recall what the reasons we argued
or what they all meant
all those friends are just ghosts in a scrapbook
that sometimes I open, I wish they were here
I would love to be back in the old days
just laughing and singing without any fear
but the past is a long empty highway
that had to come to a wintery ending
oh how I wish that were were still happy together
the best of old friends
I still think of old friends like a family
I think of the old days like photos of memory
or a garden that's made of remembrance
in which we planted the roots of our friendship
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
